An Ounce of Prevention

by Lizzy

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure applies to taking care of your health because taking steps to prevent a disease is a lot easier than treating a disease. The steps you can take in prevention are eating healthy, getting regular check ups and being a safe driver.

Eating healthy is very important to your health. Eating fruits and vegetables gives you energy and if you like sugars you can eat fruit and get natural sugars instead of sugar from junk food. You should also limit certain kinds of food because it's not good for you. You should limit junk foods, fatty foods and red meats.

Getting regular checkups are also important to your health. Going to see your doctor is a good way to prevent disease. Your doctor can screen you for certain illnesses such as high blood pressure and cancer. you can also go to your doctor for vaccinations. Follow ups are also important.

Other things you can do may not prevent diseases but it helps prevent death or an accident are to not text and drive as well as not drinking and driving. Texting while you drive is a distraction from the road and in a split second an accident may occur. You could hurt someone else as well as yourself. Drinking and driving can also be dangerous because drinking impairs your judgment and reaction time.

There are many things you can do to take care of yourself. That's why the expression "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" applies to taking care of yourself and the health of others.

When I Stopped Smoking

by Carla

One day I decided to stop smoking because I was not feeling well. I tried the medication Centax to stop smoking. Medication worked for a period of 2 months. Then something happened in my life and set me back. So I started to smoke again. This time I got sick of smoking so I prayed and asked the lord to help me and he did. I went to sleep one night. The next morning when I woke up the taste for a smoke was gone. I haven't smoked since. I feel so much better about myself. My health has improved. That's what it feels like to not smoke.

How Can People Improve Their Health Without Drastically Changing Their Lifestyle by Tanya

Trying to improve your health without drastically changing your life style can be challenging. If it's hard just for you, imagine a group of people trying, also. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but it just takes work.
A way to change your health is to relieve or avoid stress. Some ways are eating healthy, exercising, and remembering to take medicine.
Eating healthy means eating less junk food and eating more fruit and vegetables. Not only do they taste good, they help many parts of your body.
After you eat you need to exercise to help improve your health. Exercising can make your bones stronger. It may also calm your nerves. The results are relieving stress. Other kinds of exercise can be dance, yoga, and taking the stairs.
In general you or a group of people can improve your health without drastically altering their life style.

How Can People Improve Their Health Without Drastically Changing Their Lifestyle by Helen

There are ways of improving your health without drastically changing your lifestyle. Simply going back to the lifestyles we had in the early 60's and 70's era would do it. We need to realize that fast food is convenient but not always the right choice. We need to be able to see that we are easily influenced by magazines and television today on health choices.
Speaking of the early 60's and 70's era, growing up as a child in the early 60's and 70's was a lot of fun. We were limited to the sweets that we consumed. We ate well balanced meals. You always ate your vegetables everyday. We had healthy snacks like fruit, raisins, tea cakes made from natural ingredients. We also ate in moderation. We watched television a limited number of hours a day. The most fun part was that we got plenty of exercise. We played outdoors and would get upset when street lights came on because all children had to be back at home. Everyone always got enough rest because there were bedtimes in the 60's and 70's era.
I am in my late 40's and I realize that fast food is exactly what it is, FAST FOOD!!! It is prepared  on a second's notice. It s full of calories and sodium that in the long run are not good for your health. Even though you find it to be convenient after a hard day's work, it can weigh heavy on your bank account as well as your stomach and thighs.
It is good to be able to see and understand how much we are influenced by magazines and the media today. Magazines showcase models that are very thin wearing beautiful clothing. Magazines brainwash society into believing that a little extra weight is not healthy or attractive. The television often has advertising of fast food places which allows our judgment to say "Heah, that White Castle burger sure looks good".
In closing our society could very much change their health for the better without doing it so drastically. Simply get outside for walks and exercise. You don't have to be a kid to play in the park. Enjoy having fun. Buy snacks such as carrots that you have to peel, coconuts that you have to crack to eat. Be committed to eating breakfast everyday because it powers you up for challenges you face on a daily basis. Don't let the television and magazines cloud your judgment. You can be very healthy at 225 pounds or 150 pounds. It depends on what you put into your body. Like they say mind over matter. It really does matter how you think in your mind to make a change for the better.

An Ounce of Prevention

by Willie

The expression, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,"applies very much to health care. It is much better to prevent a disease or injury than it is to treat it after it occurs. It is also better to find a disease early, when it is easier to treat. There are many things that we can do to help prevent health problems or injuries from occurring and to find health problems early. The ones that I feel are important are watching what you eat, wearing your seat belt, and exercising.

One important thing that we can do to help prevent health problems is watching what you eat, and how late you eat. There are so many ways you can do this. Here are a couple things that you can do. You can watch how many calories that you eat per day. Another can be just simply watching what you eat, meaning deciding if it's healthy or not. Examples are stuff that's not greasy, and things of that nature.

Another important thing that we can do to help prevent health problems is wearing seat belts when driving motored vehicles. Doing this can very well prevent injuries, or even death. Wearing seat belts saves lives every day.

An additional thing that we can do to help prevent health problems is exercise. You want to exercise at least three times a week. A few activities that you can do are running, riding a bike, or lifting weights. All of these activities are very good for preventing health problems.

I feel that the things that we can do to help prevent health problems or injuries from occurring and to find health problems early are watching what you eat, wearing your seat belt, and exercising. There are many other ways to prevent health problems, but I feel that these are very important ones.

Agree or Disagree: You Can Eat Anything You Want As Long As You Exercise

by Tanya

Food I think is very important in moderation. Most things you eat can be good for you.

Now, exercise is great for you, I agree on that. If you eat anything and exercise well, that can be beneficial only if you do it often. When you eat all types of food and don't get physical exercise then, it's not going to help you.

Once in a while you can eat anything and not exercise. But, contantly eating and no exercise to help burn off the food can lead to medical problems to your body.

I believe that you have to do both in good ways, not too much of one and too little of another. You need both exercise for your body, and food to keep you going.

Just not so much of either thing. Balance one over another daily.

Fast Food Restaurants: Guilty

People think that fast food restaurants are responsible for the amount of obesity and other health problems in the United States. I would have to agree because fast food doesn't have healthy foods in it. There are fats, oils, and greases in most of the fast food. The advertising they put out there really can suck you into eating fast food regularly and on a daily basis.

At fast food restaurants they may have some healthy foods as toppings to a hamburger like lettuce and tomato, but they are not a whole serving and don't come with all the nutrients they should. There are plenty of other healthy foods you would not find at fast food restaurants such as apples, oranges, watermelons, pears, peaches, and cantaloupes. Those healthy foods are naturally grown with no fat and are very good for the body. They have nutrients that most foods do not.

The way the fast food is cooked and served after purchase is not healthy for the body at all. There are fats in them that many people already know about. They see it with their own eyes as employees drop a basket of french fries or tater tots into grease. There is so much fat in grease and oils and leftovers from other servings that don't make it out of the frying station. all of this combined can really have an effect on a person and do some serious damage to the body. I believe there are ways that fast food places could improve a lot in serving meals that are significantly better and much safer.

This is where the people become the victims. The advertising sucks you in in the time it takes to have a whole meal ready to be eaten. Some people cannot control what they eat or what their appetite is. This is where fast food restaurants come in to play with their scam to serve you unhealthy food in a very quick amount of time. Sometimes people don't realize it. They're so hungry that all they see is a big burger and fries, and it looks delicious and so good when it really is not healthy for you. The taste could definitely have a person coming back the next day ordering more off the menu.

This is why I believe they are responsible for serving unhealthy food to people. It's their product and their food, and they're cooking it and preparing it for you to eat in an amount of time which is very unhealthy to a person. If they advertise it to make it look like something it's really not, then yes, I believe it's them at fault. They're already hiding enough as it is by the advertisement to make it look healthy and good . That alone should tell people a lot, but some people cannot control it. That is why I believe fast food restaurants are at fault for unhealthy foods that they supply to people in the United States.
